Just went against a team of noobs in my assault dropship and these guys were using militia swarms and massdriver. The think that bothered me most was the amount of force i was hit with. Once a massdriver nearly knocked me out of the sky. The second time to militia swarms i has full 3400 shields but they knocked me so hard causing to me go sideways losing control and plummeting into the ground...
CCP, please fix this. it doesn't happen all the time but sometime, its like I got hit by a tank going 100 mph ramming me but doing like 500 shield damage.
Greetings, Anmol! And I'm not sure it's something that needs to be "Fixed" per say. Let me explain: I'm a gallente DS driver, and read up a lot from forums that said you have to bonus-up your vehicle with Skill and modules before it can put up with ANY kind of damage (even militia damage).
In the beginning I'd try to get up in the air (with mediocre militia mods and NO skill bonuses)--a single railgun or swarm volley would rock me out of the air, and my crash was a combo of impact of the blow and shield/armour shredding. I died from impact way more than loss of Hitpoints.
NOW, my skill bonuses are way up, and I've earned the proto modules---today a single railgun or swarm volley peels down shields but DOES NOT pitch the boat anymore (it's like my dropship has been eating spinach so it can take the punch without reeling). Often I'm cruising slow right into an oncoming AV hit by mistake, but even with the hit and EHP loss, the DS just keeps cruising smooth like "the pain don't mean jack anymore!" I've seen proto or rail installation bullseye some OTHER players too; it slaps the shield into non existence and takes a 40% chunk out of its armour, but THE HOVER HOLDS, or just lists calmly a little,.. and I'd like to THINK that this is an intentional reward for building up those skill-bonuses. The tiny %'s of bonus to shield/armour mean LESS impact left to rock your ship,.. or something.
The other theories posted here are excellent too: --Knowing what installations are on the map and where, before you intentionally fly over THAT spot... --knowing by impact WHAT hit you so you know what escape tactic NOT to try because it will only help him score the second hit on you... --and building enough confidence that the "first hits" don't mean you need to panic anymore and scramble away right into a tree (assuming you've built the right module and skill-bonus muscle on your vehicle, and you've learned how and when to LEAVE)
(I'm sure now, that MOST of my early crashes weren't from the AV weapon tipping me over, but from me panicking myself right into the ground--allowing the AV guy to boast that "I smoked that dripship with one shot from my kick-arse bop-gun"). |

Slag Emberforge wrote:Anmol, it sounds like you need some assistance from an AV/tanker as well as some practice at correcting flight paths. Personally my recommendation - work with some pro AV from your guild, have them race out and destroy/hack the turrets and capture CRUs, between the two you will have less laser accurate turrets firing at you and hopefully blue infantry on the ground to assist in stifling enemy AV.
I see a lot of embattled opinions about V. Vs. AV. But the real path to victory is working together, if you simultaneously deny enemy vehicles and anti vehicle installations, you can usually bring in whateve equipment you want to level out the battlefield.
Sorry I am not a DS pilot, the best I can do is deny my opponents and help my allies get where they need to go. Slag, I AM a DS driver, and the least I can do is... FULLY AGREE with your view! ...
I am dirt poor at foot-n-rifle work (not afraid to say it, LOL). This is because when I am NOT operating a DS, I'm denying the air from belonging to any red dots, and the ground from being trolled by red HAVs. I operate turret and gun-installations so much, you'd think CCP was paying me a salary to do so...
If the mean HAV that's got you cornered at the null cannon suddenly gets four railgun hits on it and is forced to flee---he was scared off by me! Or players like me who realized there's some good fire-support-from-the-rear opportunities. For even those out there who can't survive long with a rifle and have chosen to try a sniper career because of its lower RoD.... try out a rear area rail or missile installation---in my opinion it BETTER contributes to safe team-movement across the map than sniper work can.
And like I said in another thread, the DS is one vehicle that really get safer to fly if there is SQUAD/TEAM-COMMUNICATION of some kind trying to coordinate with it. |
